IRCK/NICK delegation attending the 5th European Cave Conference

Four delegates of IRCK including Prof. Chen Weihai and Prof. Huang Baojian participated in the 5^th European Cave Conference in Britain from August 13 to 19, 2016. This international conference was organized by Euro Speleo, and was aimed at exchanging relevant achievements of scientific research, development, utilization and protection of international karst caves,thus promoting the protection and rational use of cave landscape resources. IRCK/NICK/IKGdelegates gave oral presentations as follows:

“Karst landscape and caves in China” (Prof. Chen Weihai)

“Sedimentary sequence of karst in Gold Buddha cave of Jinfo Mountain, China” (Prof. Huangbaojian)

“Stalagmites records of monsoon climate change event amplitude and frequency in 70,000years” (Dr. Zhai Xiumin)

“Evolution and characteristics of cave system in Gold Buddha in Chongqing, China” (Dr. ZhangJing)

The representatives systematically introduced the basic profile of karst landscapes and caves in China, exhibited the latest progress in karst cave sediments, paleo climate andits development and evolution, and studied the advanced experience of cave detection, investigation and research abroad, which helps in deepening our understanding of global karst caves, and provides a new perspective and experiencet o promote exchange of caves investigation in China and abroad. Moreover,scholars from Britain, Slovenia and Lebanon have provided new insights and lessons for the study of karst caves in terms of tectonic geology, chemical element migration, groundwater and stalagmites studies.
