At China-ASEAN Karst Hydro-environment Geological Seminar in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on November 16, China Geological Survey (CGS) of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) announced the preliminary Karst Map of the World (1:10000000).
In 2017, CGS launched the compilation plan of Karst Map of the World (1:10000000). This plan specified ten technical methods in the compilation of maps, including materials collection, material analysis and falseness-removing and truth-retaining , remote sensing, the map relevance judgment, field investigation and verification, the mosaic technique with exaggerated pattern spots, geographic information system technology, large-area mapping scale anthology method, comprehensive cartography and overlapping analysis method. What’s more, over 400 materials including geological maps and hydrogeological maps of different countries have been collected to create the data layers and update the old data. The next plan includes: improving the compilation of Karst Map of the World and karst zoning, launching the compilation of maps on global karst water, karst environment and karst landscape (1:10000000),compiling different karst-related thematic maps of “The Belt and Road” (hereinafter referred as B&R), strengthening the exchange of data and information, constructing the international karst data and information sharing platform and building the global karst database.
