The IRCK’S Researcher Guo Fang and Associate Researcher Zhang Qiang visited France to attend EuroKarst on July 1-8, 2018. EuroKarst is an international academic seminar on “karst” as sponsored by Switzerland’s University of Neuchatel, Spain’s University of Malaga and France’s University of Besancon. As a biennial event, EuroKarst 2018 was held in Besancon, France on July 2-6, 2018. This meeting offered 11 topics, including simulation of karst groundwater, evaluation of karst groundwater vulnerability, karst landform, karst hyporheic zone, karst geology and remote sensing, karst groundwater contamination, karst cave, migration of karst substances, and global changes and water resources management. The annual event of IAH’s commission onkarst hydrogeology was organized at the same time.
The IRCK’s scholars play some important roles in IAH’s Commission on Karst (IAH-KC) Hydrogeology. Researcher Jiang Guanghui was the co-chair of this organization from 2009 to 2017. Since 2020, Researcher Zhang Cheng will be the rotating chair. The working group meeting of IAH-KC was chaired by Zoran Stevanovic, the chairman of IAH-KC. The meeting focused on the website construction and the use of membership fees, and selected some excellent young researchers out of those who gave oral presentations. Researcher Guo Fang was recognized by this award at EuroKarst 2010. The IRCK’s meeting participants gave oral presentations including “The functional significance of the hyporheic zone in karst water system” (Guo Fang), “Transportation of suspended particles and heavy metals ions in karst groundwater during rainstorm events:---a study of Yaji Spring, South China ” (Zhang Qiang). Furthermore, they actively communicated with the scholars from China to learn in details about the latest progress in Europe’s karst research and create a bridge between the IRCK and those European countries in karst area.
